Marla McKeown
Marla, a native Californian and debut author, is a devoted single mother to two college-aged daughters. As an adoptee, Marla well understands the unique complexities of the orphan hearted. Her relatable empathy pours onto the page with vulnerability and courage as she masterfully shines a light on the deep desire we all have to seek deeper understanding relative to family connection, love, identity and seeking one's purpose. Readers will delve into the perplexities of Marla’s many hard learned lessons, lovingly enriched by her “nick of time” incomprehensibly synchronistic reunion with her birth father, as they identify with her struggles, find glimpses of hope in unexpected places, and glean from the wisdom of her father.

“I read Chances within hours of it being released to Kindle. I cried through most of it. I'm so glad you had that connection with your dad!”

"Yours is a story that needs to be told. Your writing is lyrical and beautifully exposes all of the raw and confusing emotions that many who struggle with a true sense of belonging can relate to. Seeing God’s hand at work in your life, and in the discovery of your biological family brings encouragement and joy into your story. The lessons you have learned are ones your readers can take to heart as well."

Not all epic love stories are steeped in romance; the incredible happenstance of events that providentially aligned to bring my biological father and I together is the subject of my 50,000 word memoir The Secret Identity of Chance.
Had even one of the numerous illusory lily pads resting upon the rushing rivers of both our separate lives moved a centimeter in any other direction, we would have never found each other and experienced the most life altering adventure of our lives. Given that he never knew of my existence and never had children, to become a father and grandfather in his late sixties, and I, an adopted child, to finally learn my true identity after wading through a myriad of adoptive and step parents was a Divine gift to us both.
This book celebrates both the inordinately unbelievable links that ultimately connected us but, moreover the unsurpassed joy, love and courage we offered one another as I was soon blindsided and became a single mother and he fought lung cancer.
While there is a spiritual undercurrent to my story, it never preaches, but rather, underscores the power of faith in one’s life. I believe my book would be a balm for anyone who has suffered abandonment, betrayal, questioned their identity, or brushed up against the challenges of the “adoption/ foster" realm. It would also resonate with those who enjoyed Tuesdays With Morrie and the Chicken Soup series, as it also empathically deals with intergenerational bonding, loss, identity, hope, and coping mechanisms.
I look forward to sharing my story with you; kindly leave your email address for updates on the future publication of my book, and to receive upcoming blog posts.
I Look forward to connecting with you,
Marla
